Desert Botanical Garden

Located in the Papago Park, this 140 acre Phoenix Point of Pride, is home to more than 21,000 plants! The Desert Botanical Gardens opened in 1939 and is now open how to many native plants as well as over 130 endangered/rare species! While you can see Arizona flowers and plants, you can also see tons of species from around the globe in shade houses and other facilities designed to allow them to survive in the AZ heat! The whole idea started In 1936, the Arizona Cactus and Native Flora Society (ACNFS) was formed, with help of Arizona Residents as well as Gustaf Starck, a Swedish botanist, who wanted to save the Arizona desert!
