History

Originally state property, Grayhawk’s land was purchased by the Grayhawk Development Group in the 90’s. The land encompasses over 1,615 acres in the high Sonoran desert and has proved to be a great investment for the group, as the area has attracted numerous homebuyers and developers since. Construction for dwellings began in 1995 and include single family, condominiums, town homes, villas, and a luxury life-care retirement development with an assisted living section. Grayhawk was built in two distinctive areas comprising the overall neighborhood: The Park and the Retreat Village. Grayhawk opened in 1996 and completed the build out of homes in 2004 with 2,000 units in The Park and 1,600 units in The Retreat. Within these areas are smaller neighborhoods, with various gated community homes.

The construction of Grayhawk’s two world-class golf courses, Talon and Raptor, began in 1993-1994. The Talon course, designed by former U.S. Open and PGA winner David Graham and architect Gary Panks, and the Raptor course, designed by Tom Fazio, both remain one of the largest home buyer and tourist attractions today in this area.
