Nestled in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, this nationally acclaimed community in Scottsdale offers a rich history. In the early 1900s, a few years after Fort McDowell closed, a businessman, E.O. Brown, homesteaded near the spring in the McDowell Mountains. Brown eventually acquired the spring and the Silver Lead mining claim attached to it. Brown bought the DC brand and earmark from a Dr. W.B. Crosby. Over the course of two generations, DC Ranch would grow to 43,000 acres.
Brown bought the DC brand and earmark from a Dr. W.B. Crosby, and throughout his life kept adding to the neighborhood. In the 1980s, the land owners formed a partnership with DMB Associates Inc. In the late 1990s, DMB partnered with McDowell Sonoran Conservancy (aka McDowell Sonoran Land Trust) who was seeking to create 36,000-acre preserve of untouched desert. In 1998, DMB sold half their acquired land to create the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This transaction proved DMB’s commitment to environmental stewardship.McDowell Sonoran Preserve is the nation’s largest urban land preserve.
In the late 1990s, Desert Camp Village and Country Club Village were the first two of four DC Ranch villages to bring in residents. Desert Park Village and Silverleaf are the newest villages to welcome residents.
